Why not.

Probably the first question I get asked and the easiest to answer.

In many instances we have forgotten the essence of life. There are few places were living is just that. No more, no less.

I grow my own vegetables because I can and because I enjoy it. I take my kids to school everyday and spend the afternoons and holidays with them because I can. Because that is how I have chosen to structure my life. We camp, really camp, were there are elephants and lions freely roaming. That is our privilege.

We may not have what many consider essential. But I would argue that we have more.

I remember telling my family and friends my plans seventeen years ago. Granted, I probably didn’t really know what I was doing, but I was going to do it. The reactions were varied. From completely perplexed to excited.

All these years later and after multiple challenges, I can look back and be proud of the choice I made so long ago. It hasn’t always been easy but it sure has been fun.
