when you said:

I didn’t think you’d get this far

I thought you meant spatially

on this continent

so far from where I’ve been

and known

he said I’d get far

but he also did not know.

past the boroughs

where I grew to be

past the scrapes

kick the can

and dreaded dodge ball

I always hated it the most

sneaking past truancy officers

to long train ride and open parks

and persuasive talks with strangers

outside milk and stuff.

no more fold out beds

no more flights of stairs

with washings and shopping.

and yet no more kickball

no more Hanukkah all night

It is a world away

and right here

at all times

here in these dusty roads.

Far.
